# Add Margin

The margin ratio is calculated as maintenance margin divided by margin balance.

To avoid liquidation, you need to pay close attention to your margin ratio. When the margin ratio is greater than or equal to 80%, you should add more margin to reduce your risk of getting liquidated.

**Step 1:** Click the Edit button next to the margin to adjust margin

**Step 2:** Enter the amount of margin you want to add to your position in the **Add** tab

* The overwhelmed value beyond the maximum addable can discontinue your order. Please adjust the amount below your account balance to avoid this issue.
* **Currently assigned margin:** Current margin for the pair symbol refers to the margin amount deposited in the position
* **Est.Liq price after increase:** liquid price can fluctuate when you add margin

**Step 3:** Click **Confirm** button and confirm the action in your wallet

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.position.exchange/products/trading-protocol/beginners-guide/adjust-margin/add-margin.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
